Session: Alternative Fuels
Overcoming the Economic Barriers to Using Hydrogen as an Alternative
Fuel
Peter A. Jeschke, MEI Power Corporation
Abstract: Switching to Hydrogen as an energy carrier would reduce
pollution. However, Hydrogen must compete with cheap and plentiful fossil
fuel. Using examples of actual power generation projects in development,
it will be shown how Hydrogen can compete with fossil fuels if a value
is placed on the normally wasted by-products of Hydrogen production.
Bioenergy and Biofuels Projects in Ventura County
Dr. Kay Martin, Deputy Director of Public Works, Ventura County Environmental
and Energy Resources Department.
Abstract: At the direction of the Board of Supervisors, the
Ventura County Environmental and Energy Resources Department is aggressively
promoting the development of biomass and bioenergy projects in Ventura
County. Strategic partnerships with the Gold Coast Innovation Center and
the California State University of Channel Islands are to yield an anaerobic
digester facility, and partnerships with Biodiesel Industries Inc., the
Department of the Navy, and the National Park Service, a biodiesel fuel
facility at the Naval Base Ventura County.
