Dental Mercury

The presenters are Tom Barron, a Civil Engineer from the San Francisco area, and Keith Linn, of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District. Tom Barron has recently been involved with a number of P2 projects, with an emphasis upon janitorial, building, & fleet maintenance chemicals, pesticides, architectural copper, and mercury.

Tom Barron
Today's presentation highlights efforts that POTWs throughout the US & Canada are making to reduce the discharge of mercury from dental offices. Specific topics include: a regulatory overview, dental office waste streams, effective P2 practices ("BMPs"), and suggestions for conducting your own dental mercury outreach program.

Keith J. Linn
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District has established a narrative local limit requiring dentists to submit best management practice (BMP) plans for mercury discharge minimization. These requirements and the regulatory history behind them will be presented.
